With its high altitude (3600 feet altitude) it has a world class ski area, Mt Bachelor, just 20 miles away. But there are lots of summer activities as well, with concerts at the Hayden Homes Amphitheater, summer festivals and farmers markets. Bend offers a suburban feel in a smaller city and there are a lot of bars, breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks. Outdoor activities abound year around and are close by with a lot of wilderness area to explore. Bend/La Pine school district gets an above average rating by Greatschools.org.
